Planning for the future and creating the legacy you wish to leave is one of the most effective ways to ensure a lasting impact. Legacy or planned giving provides additional resources to the parish to support its mission and ministries. Legacy gifts can be unrestricted or restricted for designated use. These gifts enable St. Andrew to use the totality of the resources at any time to meet the needs of the parish as determined by the pastor and leadership councils.
What to Give |
Gifts may include money, financial securities, real estate, insurance, retirement accounts, or other assets. If you are 70 1/2 or older, you can make a qualified charitable distribution from your IRA. |
How to Give |
Gifts may be made directly to St Andrew through a will, living trust, retirement plan assets, or life insurance policies. (See Giving Instructions below) |
Use of Gifts |
Unrestricted gifts provide money to St. Andrew for discretionary use by the parish, as determined by parish leadership. Restricted gifts provide money to St. Andrew for specific use directed by the donor. For example, directed to the Capital Fund to support the care of the church and facilities. Legacy gifts are not subject to archdiocesan assessment; the totality of the funds stay with the parish. |
Management and Timing |
Moneys from these gifts are managed by St. Andrew leadership (pastor and Administrative Council). There is no management fee associated with this process. St. Andrew operates under the fiscal management policies of the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon. |
Oversight |
St. Andrew leadership is responsible for managing these resources, under the fiscal oversight of the Archdiocese. |
Contingencies |
If St. Andrew ceases to operate as parish, any resources, including those given as legacy gifts, would be redirected to the Archdiocese. |
Considerations |
Gifts to St. Andrew are tax deductible. |
